This will be my first time not only managing a long-distance relationship, but also coping with the challenges that come with having a loved one on deployment. Luckily, I have amazing family and friends for support and I've spent the past few years of my life gaining some independence and self-reliance. Here are some things I plan to do over the next year (approximately):
Clearly, there is plenty that I can do to keep me busy and distracted while I wait anxiously for phone calls, e-mails, or letters!
- Grad School - 3 intense classes and preparing to see real clients. I'm sure I'll have enough readings and papers to write to keep me busy
- Getting in Shape - Okay, I'm not completely out of shape, but my attention to my health routines and choices has been lacking lately. I plan to make it to the gym a solid 2-3 times a week along with eating healthier options and drinking adequate amounts of water
- Writing Letters and Sending Care Packages - probably the thing I am most excited about. I've never had someone in my life that not only appreciates receiving letters, but will take the time to respond to them. I enjoy making things and getting a bit creative, so this will give me an opportunity to express my feelings and share how I feel during our time apart.
- Reading Books - Not just textbooks, but books that I've had on my shelf that I just haven't found the time to get to
- Watching Plenty of Movies - Truthfully, I'm slacking when it comes to being up-to-date on movies, recent and classic. It's really kind of sad
